Ana Brkljačić, PhD is a new addition to Oikon

September 6, 2022 – we are delighted to introduce a new member of the Oikon team – Ana Brkljačić, PhD, who will contribute to our numerous conservation projects and field research as a Senior Associate employed at our Department of Nature Protection and Landscape Architecture.

Ana Brkljačić graduated as a Biological engineer from the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb, where she defended her Master’s thesis entitled “Biological-ecological characteristics of the Lika River and its tributaries” and obtained a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (Biology). She completed her PhD in Nature and Environmental Protection from Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek with a dissertation on “Vascular flora of the Beaver’s hips in the Velebit Nature Park”.

After completing her studies, she worked as a sanitary inspector and in the County Institute for Spatial Planning, Development and Environmental Protection of Lika-Senj County. After that, in 1999, she was appointed as the first director of the Public Institution “Velebit Nature Park”, where she held various positions (director, expert manager, senior consultant for biology) and where she remained until the end of August 2022, before starting her work at Oikon.

From 2013 to 2019, she worked with her colleagues Dario Kremer, PhD, and Marko Randić, MSc, on systematic research and inventory of plant species on the Premužić Trail on Velebit, and in May 2019 they jointly published the book “Plants of the Premužić Trail on Velebit” – a pictorial guide with 2,760 photos. The guide’s content and concept are aimed at the general public and the scientific community.

Ana Brkljačić is a member of the Croatian Botanical Society and Matica Hrvatska.

She is registered in the Register of Scientists under the number 285903.
