17 May 2016 − today Oikon signed a contract with Croatian Ministry of Agriculture for the project: Application of high resolution multi-spectral satellite images in determining the degree of productivity and age of uneven age forest stands of forest owners in the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean. The project will last for two years, until May 2018.
With this project, under the guidance of Vladimir Kušan, PhD, it is planned to produce an estimation model of the growth and age of uneven age forest stands of forest owners in the Mediterranean and sub-Mediterranean based on data from the Sentinel 2a multi-scale satellite images. By calculating the various vegetation indices (EVI, NDVI, LAI, SAVI and others) that are already in use and relevant field data, the link will be established by statistical methods between field and satellite data and will produce estimation models with the highest degree of correlation and the smallest error .
By establishing these models for estimation of the growth and age of forest stands, the operational editing and prediction of the condition of forests will be significantly optimized. Progress and results will be continuously presented through participation in relevant conferences and it will be available to all entrepreneurs operating in forestry.
