On 8th and 9th of February 2018, a workshop was held in Afyon, Turkey, as part of the Natura 2000 project in Turkey (Strengthening the National Nature Protection System for the Implementation of Natura 2000), where Oikon participated as Project Partner.
Oikon’s team, besides preparing the Natura 2000 site information system and harmonizing it with the existing biodiversity database, also participates in the methodology development phase for selecting the potential Natura 2000 sites.
Considering that Oikon has worked on a variety of projects in the area of environmental protection, nature protection and natural resource management (forestry, hunting, agriculture), it was the maps (Ecological Network, Emerald Network, Corine Land Cover, etc.), and the spatial-thematic results of these projects that contributed to the successful establishment of Natura 2000 sites in Croatia.
Our experts Vladimir Kušan, Ph.D., Zrinka Mesić, Ph.D., Alen Berta, Ph.D., Siniša Tkalčec, Nela Jantol and Boris Božić, together with our external associates Mirna Mazija and Matjaž Harmel, presented the experience of Natura 2000 implementation in Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro, and what will Natura 2000 in Turkey mean for the development and implementation of forest management programs.
