September 27, 2023 – Our experts participated in the International Conference and 13th Croatian Scientific and Professional Meeting, “Air Protection 2023,” held in Dubrovnik from September 20 to 23, 2023. The conference was organized by the Croatian Air Pollution Prevention Association, with Oikon as the general sponsor.
Dr. Božica Šorgić, the Head of our Department of Environmental Engineering, delivered a presentation titled “ Quality of Action Plan’s measures. How to get to cleaner air?” The presentation focused on the development of an Action Plan to reduce particle pollution (PM10) in the City of Osijek, which is in its final stages of preparation.

The presentation of a proposal to revise the EU Directive on air quality, based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), which are even stricter than the new Directive proposal. The discussion explored the implications for certain cities in the Republic of Croatia.
Introduction of the project for the establishment of the National Reference Laboratory for emissions from non-road vehicles’ internal combustion engines in the Republic of Croatia. The project aims to set up and equip the laboratory and provide training for the necessary experts.
Representatives from the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) also briefed participants on the “Expansion and Modernization of the National Network of State Stations for Permanent Air Quality Monitoring (AIRQ).” This project, financed through the Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020, is nearing completion. It marks a significant step for the Republic of Croatia in enhancing environmental and health outcomes through improved air quality monitoring and DHMZ’s capacity.
