Project name: Defining SMART conservation objectives and basic conservation measures for target species and habitat types – Group 7: Defining objectives and conservation measures for insufficiently known species of flora and habitat types
Client: Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development
Period: 06/2021 – 04/2023
Location: Croatia
The project aimed to research selected target flora species and habitat types of 140 Natura 2000 sites in Croatia. The project included 17 plant species and 15 habitat types of interest for Natura 2000. The project was divided into three parts, Part 1: Preparation of the Work Plan, Part 2: Collection and analysis of known data and preparation of Preliminary reports, and Part 3: Field research and preparation of Final reports.
First part, Work plan includes project’s task and the plan for second and third part of the project. Work plan also contains detailed instructions for the writing of Preliminary and Final Reports.
Second part of the project was collection and analysis of existing data on selected target flora species and target habitat types. All published and available unpublished data on selected target flora species and habitat types in selected areas of the Natura 2000 were collected and analysed. Preliminary reports defined potential habitats and areas of distribution of target species and potential areas of distribution of target habitat types within each selected area of the Natura 2000. Based on existing data and defined potential habitats/areas, a detailed plan for field research (mapping) was created. The Preliminary report explains the method of planning the field investigation and defines the methodology by which the obtained field data was analysed as part of the Final Report.
Third part of the project included the organization and implementation of field research (mapping) of selected target flora species and habitat types, as well as processing and analysis of collected data. Field research covered 140 areas of the Natura 2000 in Croatia and included 17 plant species and 15 habitat types. The product of field research, data collection and analysis are 32 Final reports for each target flora species and target habitat type.
The reports included data on distribution, abundance of target flora species and area of habitat types, degree of habitat conservation for target flora species and habitat type, recorded threats and necessary measures for long-term conservation of target species and habitats.
