Project name: Technical assistance in the management and protection of World Heritage sites of beech forests in the Paklenica NP as part of the BEECH POWER project

The project provided technical assistance in the management and protection of World Heritage sites of beech forests in the Paklenica NP within the framework of the Beech Power project, which improved the quality and efficiency of the World Heritage site management in order to preserve the integrity of the ecosystem of each component through capacity building and active participation of key stakeholders.
The steps and activities to implement the project were divided into two work packages consisting of the following activities:
- Collection and analysis of all relevant data (proclamation act, existing documentation and studies related to the area of NP and the buffer zones, laws and regulations, management documentation, etc.) and preparation of the Report on the assessment of the current situation of forest management in the target buffer zone areas in English.
- Organizing and facilitating a workshop Participatory situation analysis that brings together key stakeholders who can contribute to the achievement of the project objectives.
- Application of the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation methodology in facilitating the workshop.
- Documenting the results of the workshop in Miradi software.
- Preparation and submission of reports on the course and results of the workshop in Croatian and a summary in English.
- Preparation of an overview of the results by categorizing the stakeholder statements into needs, potentials and requirements related to regional development, tourism and good governance education.
- Organizing and facilitating the Participatory strategy development workshop that brings together key stakeholders, and follows up on the results obtained by the Participatory situation analysis workshop.
- Application of the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation methodology in facilitating the workshop.
- Development of the Regional Strategy and its delivery to the client in Croatian and English.
- Preparation (in cooperation with the client) of a list of stakeholders for the formation of the Working Group consisting of representatives of the local community, Public Institution NP Paklenica, regional public bodies and other stakeholders.
- Facilitation of the kick-off meeting of the Work Group, drafting of the Work program and facilitation of two additional Work Group meetings.
- Preparation of the materials required for the Work Group meetings and preparation of the collected data for the preparation of the Work Program.
- Preparation and submission of the Work Program in Croatian and a summary of the Work Program in English.
- Development of a Regional Marketing Strategy for Paklenica National Park in Croatian and English.
- Implementation of the activities envisaged in the Regional Marketing Strategy which included, among others, a field survey in the World Heritage Site in Paklenica National Park, site reconnaissance, recording by drone, audio recording and subsequent office analysis and processing of all collected data.
- Design, creation and printing of two kinds of leaflets. The first has an informative and educational purpose and is aimed at primary school students and staff. The second is aimed at visitors to Paklenica NP.
- Development of photogrammetric 3D models of two World Heritage sites in NP Paklenica
- Editing and development of „nature sounds“ audio-recordings, recorded in NP Paklenica.
- Writing reports on the formation and implementation of the Work group and on the development and implementation of the Regional Marketing Strategy, in Croatian and English.
- All strategies, reports and activities developed within this project were delivered to the client.
