As initial project activity of SEA for the Draft proposal of the Waste management plan for the City of Zagreb up to 2015 including Appropriate Assessment, the document was compared with other relevant plans or programmes from waste management, water management, air quality management, nature protection and spatial planning sectors.
After detailed review of existing environmental conditions in the area an assessment of significant impacts was performed. It included analysis of water quality, air quality, soil quality, landscape, biodiversity, cultural heritage, local inhabitants and material assets. Impacts are expressed as positive/negative, direct/indirect, cumulative, synergy, short/medium/long – term, permanent/temporary.
The proposal of new alternative sites, interventions and components of waste management centre and already available alternatives as well as evaluation of each alternative with selection of most preferable option were performed. Subsequently, the proposition of environmental protection measures and monitoring programme was done.
Also, the institutional and public requirements were considered as part of the assessment.
