10th SPLIT Remote Sensing® Professional Summer School 2025

July 28, 2025 – The 10th edition of the SPLIT Remote Sensing® Hands-On Professional Summer School (SPLITRS 2025) took place in Split, Croatia, from June 30 to July 5, bringing together international professionals and researchers focused on sustainable land management. This year’s theme, “Remote Sensing for Sustainable Land Management: Integrating Agriculture, Forestry, and Geohazards”, highlighted practical applications of Earth Observation technologies in addressing real-world environmental challenges.

The programme covered a wide range of topics, including machine learning for wildfire risk and crop monitoring, hyperspectral data analysis, LiDAR, SAR processing, and UAV-based environmental monitoring. A field trip to Krka National Park and the town of Skradin offered participants the chance to experience the natural beauty of the area and collect drone and LiDAR data in real-world conditions.

Oikon also participated in the programme: Luka Raspović took part in the full programme, while Branimir Radun and Ivan Tomljenović, PhD held two expert-led sessions that combined theory and practice:

  • Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) with eCognition: EO for Mapping Shallow Water Marine Habitats / Point Clouds and Object primitives in theory and practice, held by Branimir Radun and Ivan Tomljenović, PhD
  • OBIA: Point Clouds and Object primitives in theory and practice, held by Ivan Tomljenović, PhD

Oikon’s involvement reflects its continuous investment in professional development and its commitment to advancing the use of remote sensing in environmental science. By contributing to leading international events such as SPLITRS, Oikon strengthens its position as a regional expert in applied ecology and geospatial technologies.
