New Head of the Department of Natural Resource Management

January 28, 2026 – Our expert, Dr Ivan Tekić, has been appointed as the new Head of our Department of Natural Resource Management.

Ivan is a geographer by training and earned his PhD at the University of Nottingham (School of Geography). His doctoral research focused on landscape change, forestry development, and traditional forest management, with a particular emphasis on the Mediterranean region of Croatia.

During his career at Oikon, he has specialised in Earth Observation methods, remote sensing, and spatial analysis in a GIS environment. In addition to applying satellite and geospatial data in ecological analysis and management planning, his work focuses on detecting changes in land cover and land use, as well as analysing the impacts of infrastructure projects on soil and agricultural land.

Ivan has extensive experience in leading and coordinating complex projects, including those funded by the European Space Agency (ESA). He is currently the project manager for three projects and leads several work packages across various ESA initiatives. These range from automated monitoring of Croatia’s coastal areas to the use of satellite data in the assessment of marine and coastal ecosystem services, and the development of WebGIS tools for automated mapping of invasive plant species based on Sentinel satellite data.

He is the author and co-author of several scientific papers and book chapters and regularly takes part in national and international professional and scientific conferences.

In his new role as Head of the Department, Ivan looks forward to further strengthening Oikon’s professional and scientific capacities, with a particular focus on the use of advanced spatial and space technologies in natural resource management, spatial planning, and environmental impact assessment.
In this position, Ivan Tekić succeeds Branimir Radun, who will continue to collaborate with Oikon as an Advisor to the Management Board for space technologies.
