Project name: Landscape study for the protected landscape Goranec

Client: Public Institution for Management of Natural Values of the City of Zagreb (Nature of the City of Zagreb)

Period: 11/2024 – 11/2025
Location: Croatia

From November 2024 to November 2025, a landscape study for the Protected Landscape of Goranec, including the Natura 2000 site Vejalnica and Krč (HR2001298), within the City of Zagreb, was conducted.
The landscape study included a detailed analysis, identification, and assessment of the landscape character; identification, mapping, and description of landscape units in the landscape atlas; determination of natural, visual-experiential, and cultural-historical values; assessment of the condition, sensitivity, and vulnerability of the landscape; and finally, formulation of guidelines for management aimed at the protection and improvement of the landscape.

The development methodology is based on the Methodological Guide for the Development of Landscape Studies in the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets, 2025) and consisted of two main parts: A. landscape character assessment and B. landscape evaluation. The assessment of the condition and quality of the landscape was carried out by creating value models in the ProVAL2000 program, while the remaining spatial data processing was done using various GIS tools.

The results of the landscape study include the landscape atlas with management and conservation guidelines; a land cover map created for the study; a habitat map in accordance with the National Habitat Classification, created for the study; and a digital orthophoto created using an RGB visual camera.
