Five presentations at the 3rd Medvednica Green Touch conference

September 10, 2026 – Oikon’s experts presented five papers at the 3rd Scientific and Professional Conference with International Participation “Medvednica Green Touch”, held on 8 and 9 September at the Medvedgrad Visitor Centre in Zagreb. The conference was organised by the Public Institution Medvednica Nature Park in co-organisation with the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Department of Natural Sciences, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, and the Zagreb Tourist Board.

Four of our papers were presented in the session on conservation and restoration of ecosystems, and one in the session on management, green transition and digital tools. Most of them stem from the project “Improving the management of special forest vegetation reserves threatened by the effects of climate change” (2023–2025), which covered three reserves totalling 224 hectares, phytosociological sampling at 45 plots, and mapping of forest habitats.

The papers:

  • Survey of target saproxylic beetles in the special forest vegetation reserves of Medvednica Nature Park – Lovro Turkalj, Boris Hrašovec (Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology), Ivana Latković, Joso Vukelić
  • Status of forest habitat types and vascular flora in special forest vegetation reserves of Medvednica Nature Park – Lovro Turkalj, Marko Augustinović, Nela Jantol, Tonko Megyery, Joso Vukelić
  • Amphibians of special forest reserves in Medvednica Nature Park: population status and threats at three sites – Matija Kresonja, Milorad Mrakovčić
  • Fish communities of Medvednica Nature Park – structure, diversity and conservation status – Milorad Mrakovčić, Matija Kresonja, Ivana Sučić (Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition), Juraj Petravić (Zelenilo Ltd.)
  • Implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 June 2024 on nature restoration and amending Regulation (EU) 2022/869 in forest management in Croatia using the example of Medvednica Nature Park – Mia Vučevac, Nela Jantol

Oral presentations were given by Lovro Turkalj, who presented two papers on the state of forest habitats and saproxylic fauna in the Park’s special reserves, and Mia Vučevac, on the implementation of the European Nature Restoration Regulation in Croatian forestry. Ivana Sučić (Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition) presented the paper on the fish communities of Medvednica, and our findings on amphibians were shown as a poster.

We thank the organisers for a successful conference and for the invitation. Full abstracts of all presentations are available in the Book of Abstracts on the Park’s website.
