September 28, 2026 – From 22 to 25 September, Oikon took part in WindEnergy Hamburg 2026 as a member of the European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (ERWC), presenting our consultancy services for renewable energy projects at the consortium’s stand.
WindEnergy Hamburg is the world’s largest wind energy trade fair. This year’s edition brought together around 1,600 exhibiting companies from 40 countries and more than 43,000 attendees from 100 countries.
We held meetings with developers, investors and consultants over the four days of the fair. The conversations focused on the wildlife and biodiversity side of wind development, onshore and offshore, from early-stage risk screening and site selection through to construction supervision and operational monitoring. There was also frequent discussion about anti-collision systems (ACS) that stop wind turbines only when a protected species is actually at risk, thereby reducing mortality without significant losses in production.
Alongside Oikon, the ERWC brings together Waardenburg Ecology (the Netherlands), the Écosphère Group (France), Nature Conservation Consultants (Greece) and BioInsight & Ecoa (Portugal). With more than 550 staff combined, the consortium provides ecological research and consultancy for renewable energy projects across Europe and beyond, applying uniform quality standards and research protocols, with the aim of supporting responsible energy development while protecting nature.
