Analysis of the Šibenik area fire

July 20, 2022 – The catastrophic fire that hit the Šibenik area and the hinterland of Vodice and Zaton last week, causing great material damage, was finally extinguished two days ago, after six days of intense effort by our brave firefighters with the help of the army, police and civil defence.

Our team of experts from the Department of Natural Resources Management has made an analysis of the burned area based on Sentinel 2B satellite imagery from July 16, which shows that about 2,500 hectares (25 km2) of land have burned.

The extent of this fire is also indicated by the fact that it was greater than the large fire that devastated the suburbs of Split five years ago and covered an area of 1825 ha (18.25 km2), for which we also prepared an analysis at that time: link.
