Project name: Analysis of the carbon footprint scope 1, 2 and 3 for Ivančica d.d. for the year 2021 with an overview of measures to reduce emissions
Client: Ivančica d.d.
Period: 3/2024 – 7/2024
Location: Croatia

The objective of the project was to analyze the carbon footprint of scopes 1, 2, and 3 for Ivančica d.d. for the year 2021. The analysis included a review of energy consumption that generates scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions within Ivančica d.d. It covered energy consumption in properties and facilities owned by Ivančica d.d. Additionally, the upstream and downstream segments of the value chain were analyzed, specifically scope 3 emissions in the following categories:
- Upstream indirect emissions: purchased goods and services, capital goods, fuel- and energy-related emissions (not included in scopes 1 and 2), upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, and employee commuting.
- Downstream indirect emissions: downstream transportation and distribution, end-of-life product treatment, and downstream leased assets.
The analysis included the development of a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, the definition of organizational boundaries, and reporting boundaries. The greenhouse gases covered in the analysis were carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O), with emission calculations based on emission factors from the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
A quantitative inventory of GHG emissions was prepared, including an analysis of emissions by location/consumer (identifying the largest energy consumers and, consequently, the locations with the highest emissions) and the distribution of emissions by fuel type. Data collection was conducted via a designated SharePoint platform, which contained data collection tables and all key documents required for the carbon footprint analysis.
Additionally, an assessment of the necessary annual reductions in GHG emissions for scopes 1, 2, and 3 was conducted based on the methodology of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), along with proposed measures for reducing GHG emissions. Preliminary results of the carbon footprint analysis and proposed reduction measures were presented to the management and the team responsible for the project at Ivančica d.d.
The carbon footprint analysis was prepared in accordance with the HRN EN ISO 14064-1:2018 standard (Specification with guidance at the organization level for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals) and the methodology of the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.
During the carbon footprint analysis and the development of emission reduction measures, relevant policies were taken into account, including the European Green Deal, the Fit for 55 package, and other applicable regulations.
Ivančica d.d. received confirmation of the scientific validity of its targets, as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) officially approved its short-term, science-based emission reduction target.
