Batumi Raptor Count 2024

Batumi, Georgia, October 11, 2024 – Each autumn, over a million raptors fly over the so-called bottleneck area in Batumi, making it one of the most important points along their migration route over the Black Sea. This spectacular natural phenomenon is monitored by the Batumi Raptor Count, a non-governmental organization that has been tracking raptors in the region since 2008.

Ornithologists and bird enthusiasts from around the world gather there annually, from mid-August to mid-October, to observe the migration. This year, our ornithologist Josip Nikolić joined them, gaining valuable experience which will enhance assessments of nature and environmental impacts of wind farms.

The Batumi Raptor Count uses the collected data for research, conservation, and education on the importance of raptor protection. For more information, visit: www.batumiraptorcount.org
