ERWC is now EcoSymbia

October 14, 2026 – The European Renewable Energy & Wildlife Consortium (ERWC), an international association of environmental consultancies that we founded in 2024, is now called EcoSymbia. Together, the five partner companies have more than 550 experts and experience from over 50,000 projects in 88 countries, and the new name better reflects how broad that expertise is.

We set up the association to bring together the expertise needed to develop renewable energy projects that also protect nature. Our early work focused on the impacts of wind and solar farms on birds, bats and other species, although the partner companies have always worked across a much wider field.

Alongside Oikon, our subsidiary Pro silva and our partner company Supernatural, EcoSymbia brings together Waardenburg Ecology (Netherlands), Écosphère (France), Nature Conservation Consultants (Greece) and Bioinsight (Portugal). With their subsidiaries and partner companies, the association includes 15 companies with offices in nine countries across Europe, Asia and South America, and more than 550 ecologists, biologists and other environmental specialists. They have delivered projects on all seven continents.

From renewables to complete solutions for nature and the environment

EcoSymbia continues to support renewable energy projects. It also covers infrastructure and development projects, marine surveys, habitat restoration, permitting, environmental and nature impact assessments, and biodiversity conservation and enhancement.

“Renewable energy is what brought us together, but the knowledge, experience and fields of work of the partner companies have always been much broader. The name EcoSymbia describes far better what we are today: an international association that can bring different specialist disciplines together and offer complete solutions to increasingly complex environmental and biodiversity challenges,” said Dalibor Hatić, Director of Oikon.

What Oikon brings to EcoSymbia

As one of the founders, we bring knowledge and experience from projects in Croatia and abroad.

“Oikon brings strong multidisciplinary expertise, extensive project experience and the widest range of services among the partners. At the same time, EcoSymbia lets us combine our expertise with leading specialists from other countries and take on projects that a single company would struggle to cover alone. For our clients in Croatia and the region, this means access to specialists from across the whole international association, while Croatian expertise becomes more closely involved in large international projects,” Hatić added.

The name EcoSymbia combines ecology and symbiosis. It reflects the two ideas behind the association: development that progresses alongside nature conservation, and cooperation between independent specialist firms that together can offer more than each could alone.

Nothing changes for our existing clients. The partner companies remain independent, and their teams and projects continue as before. What is new is that EcoSymbia gives clients easier access to the knowledge and capacity of the whole association.

EcoSymbia makes its first in-person appearance at the Conference on Solar Energy and Biodiversity (CSB) in Paris on 28–29 October. Find out more at ecosymbia.com.
