November 21, 2025 – A workshop titled “Fourth National Plan for the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention in the Republic of Croatia” was held today at the Croatian Chamber of Economy, organised by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.
At the workshop, our expert Morana Belamarić Šaravanja presented the Fourth National Plan, prepared under contract with the Ministry by Oikon Ltd. and Takoda Ltd. The plan includes decisions adopted at the ninth, tenth and eleventh Conferences of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention.
Croatia ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in November 2006 through the Act on the Ratification of the Convention (“Official Gazette – International Agreements”, No. 11/06), and became a Party to the Convention on 30 April 2007 (“Official Gazette – International Agreements”, No. 2/07). Since then, three national implementation plans have been developed in line with the obligations under Article 7.
The Fourth National Plan provides a comprehensive framework for managing POPs in Croatia. It outlines measures aligned with the latest requirements of both the Convention and the European Union, identifies key risks and offers strategic guidance for the period up to 2031. Participants also received an overview of current expert topics, including trends, regulatory requirements and monitoring results related to POPs.
