Traffic Study for wider area of Marjan Forest Park (The Study) is a vital strategic document for introducing the sustainable mobility and e-mobility concepts not only in the urban parts of the city, but also as a guideline for traffic planning in the natural and historical heritage environment. The aim of the Study was to introduce alternative and intermodal ways of transport based on the traffic demand potential in Marjan Forest Park, but also taking into account the neighbouring streets which correlate with Marjan Forest Park.
Traffic study is about the integration in the unique system of pedestrian, bicycle, car, maritime and public transport. Project activity reports were created regarding on the allocated work packages. A methodological approach was provided in the assessment of local traffic effects in Marjan Forest Park area based on traffic infrastructure and traffic flow analysis. Based on the traffic analysis results, three scenarios were included in the analysis which were verified through 4-step traffic model with its OD travel matrix. Suggestions were made for the new traffic organization in the streets correlated with the Forest Park, but also for the Park itself. New cycling routes, trekking and walking paths were suggested according to the goals for improving the recreation infrastructure in the park.
Parking system in the proximity of Marjan Forest Park and integration with the “Shuttle” transport, as part of the sustainable mobility concept which aims to decrease “wild” parking in proximity of the Forest Park. “Shuttle” transport through Marjan Forest Park was suggested with extended line reachability for the potential on connecting the whole Marjan Forest Park with the “Shuttle” line. As an additional part of mode integration, local boat lines were also introduced and suggested for connecting the docks allocated across the coast of Marjan Forest Park.
In the Study is suggested the optimal landscape solution for the area and the Study is integrated by conceptual designs of proposed new roads and paths in the form of longitudinal and cross-sections.
