Marjan Forest Park Management Program

November 21, 2018 − Oikon signed today a contract with the Marjan Forest Park Public Administration for the preparation of the Forest Management Plan that will contain the Protection, Care and Forest Rehabilitation Program for the Marjan Forest.

On this project, not only will our experts use their long-standing forest-inventory experience, but this area will be scanned with LIDAR technology that provides a large number of precise data (15 to 60 dots per m²) about the height and density of the vegetation and the terrain below the vegetation. With this data Oikon’s Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratory (LADIGIS) will accurately model the amount and spatial distribution of wood stock across the entire surface. The team will also map the dieback of this forest with high-resolution multispectral satellites (Sentinel 2-10 m pixels), which is the first step in establishing monitoring of the pine trees’ dying due to the attack of the Mediterranean pine beetle (Orthotomicus erosus).
