
July 2, 2025 – Oikon was invited to take part in the international workshop “Big Data: Space Solutions for Society”, held in Kalkara, Malta, from 30 June to 1 July 2025. The event brought together leading experts in space data, policymakers, and scientists to discuss how satellite-based information and AI are driving forward resilience, sustainability, and societal benefits, especially in the Mediterranean region.
Dr. Ivan Tekić, Head of the Scientific Council at Oikon, delivered a presentation titled “Earth Observation in Service of Nature Protection and Sustainable Development”. His talk highlighted the growing role of Earth observation in environmental monitoring, biodiversity conservation, and strategic planning for sustainable land use, drawing on Oikon’s expertise and practical experience in the field.
The two-day workshop, organised by Eurisy and Xjenza Malta, focused on the latest developments in how data from space is being used to support public policy, natural resource management, and community resilience. Through case studies, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, participants explored how artificial intelligence is accelerating the processing and application of Big Data collected via satellite.
Oikon’s participation reaffirmed the company’s commitment to innovation in environmental science and its active role in the European space and sustainability dialogue.
