October 10, 2025 – We are proud to announce that the consortium led by Oikon has been awarded a Eurostars project titled “Integrated Geospatial Information System (GIS), Earth Observation (EO) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) toolbox for European Sustainability Reporting Standards on Biodiversity and Ecosystem (ESRS E4)”, acronym GEOAI4ESRSE4.
The project started on 1 October 2025 and will run for 18 months, with a total budget of EUR 730,879. As the consortium leader and the only partner from Croatia, Oikon is the final beneficiary of the Eurostars programme, co-funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe Programme, HAMAG-BICRO, and the Swiss–Croatian Cooperation Programme.
Within the project, we will develop an integrated set of tools combining GIS, Earth Observation (EO), and AI to enable companies to report on biodiversity and ecosystems more accurately and efficiently, in line with the ESRS E4 standard. The solution is designed as a set of harmonised workflows for collecting, processing, and visualising spatial data, and for assessing risks and opportunities related to natural capital.
The consortium consists of: Oikon – Institute of Applied Ecology (HR, coordinator), Paris-Lodron University Salzburg – PLUS (AT, partner), Spatial Services GmbH (AT, partner), and ESG Solutions & Consulting GmbH (AT, partner).
The applicability of the solution will be tested through pilot implementations in three sectors: the food industry, renewable energy, and public utilities. This will help assess the transferability and robustness of the approach across different business environments.
The project is co-funded by the Croatian Agency for SMEs, Innovations and Investments (HAMAG-BICRO) through the Eurostars programme, with funding from the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme and the Swiss–Croatian Cooperation Programme. Eurostars is part of the European Partnership for Innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
