August 28, 2020 – Two of our experts gave interesting lectures at the Youth Science Camp in Višnjan.
A lecture on LiDAR technologies and their practical applications on the example of Oikon’s project Marjan Forest Park was given by our expert in GIS and remote sensing, Ivan Tomljenović, PhD. In this fun and interactive lecture held under the light of projectors and stars, 7th and 8th-grade students learned what LiDAR is, what it is used for, what types of LiDAR exist and how it was used to calculate biomass in Marjan Park Forest. They actively participated in the lecture, had many questions and even suggestions.
Zrinka Mesić, our expert in the field of biology and ecology, was a mentor to 5th and 6th graders on the project “How old are the Tree of Truth, the Tree of Strength and the Tree of the World”. She helped the students in the project in which they determined the age of different types of trees, such as oriental hornbeam, Aleppo pine, downy oak, black ash and holm oak, in relation to the width and volume of those trees. Through the implementation of the project, students gained practical knowledge of ecology in a fun way and with a lot of time spent in nature.
