PoLaRecCE project

New chance for Polluted Lands: Recovery of agricultural soil function by non-food farming and adapted soil management at degraded sites

PoLaRecCE is a project co-financed by the second call of the Interreg Central Europe programme, which focuses on cooperation between Central European countries to improve sustainable development.

In particular, Interreg Central Europe supports projects involving partnerships between Public Bodies, Universities, Companies and Non-Governmental Organisations from different Member States.

PoLaRecCE involves ten partners from Poland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary, working together to recover contaminated soils and restore agricultural activity through innovative and sustainable techniques.

In many regions of Europe, agricultural or marginal soils are contaminated with various types of pollutants and are still used for growing food and feed. This leads to uncontrolled uptake of pollutants into the food chain.

PoLaRecCE aims to develop innovative tools and approaches to support land management practices and better adapt degraded soils to the environmental, social, and economic needs of the local community. This is in line with the EU Green Deal policy and represents a response to the challenges of environmental degradation and climate change.
