Presenting Innovative eDNA Research at UKDNA 2025 Conference in London

May 16, 2025 – Dr. Jelena Mlinarec Novosel, Head of Oikon’s Laboratory for Biodiversity and Population Genetics, took part in the UKDNA 2025 Conference, hosted by the Royal Society in London on 13–14 May 2025. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, service providers, and end-users to explore the use of DNA-based methods in environmental monitoring and policy development.

At the conference, Jelena presented a poster titled “Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of the Lotic Fish Communities: A Comparison of Coffee Filter‐Based Passive eDNA Collection Versus Active eDNA Filtering“, co-authored with Ida Svetličić, Matija Kresonja, Matea Rubinić, Tonko Megyery, Ivana Kaliger (Oikon), and Dominik Mihaljević (Kornati National Park).

The research highlights a comparison between passive and active eDNA sampling techniques for monitoring freshwater fish communities – offering insights into practical and scalable approaches for biodiversity assessment.

We’re glad to contribute to the dialogue on advancing DNA-based technologies and ecological monitoring.
