PROJECT NAME:
PROOF OF INNOVATIVE CONCEPT FOR AN ACOUSTIC DEVICE FOR FOREST ECOSYSTEMS MONITORING
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
OIKON’s project aims to develop and laboratory-test an early prototype of an electronic device with an acoustic component that detects sounds associated with illegal logging and forest fires. The system includes a low-power autonomous device and a mobile application for alerts and analysis, based on portable machine learning and multiple sensor components. The project encompasses four key activities: hardware and software development, technical validation, intellectual property protection, and management of the innovation cycle.
OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS:
The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of an early prototype device that uses acoustic detection to identify sounds linked to illegal logging or the early stages of a forest fire. The goal is to develop a functional laboratory prototype with integrated sensors, a GPS module, a communication unit, and a local data processing algorithm.
Expected results:
- A developed and validated laboratory prototype for acoustic monitoring and detection of illegal forest activities
- An algorithm for local sound classification using machine learning
- A functional mobile application for receiving and processing field reports
- A verified and registered trademark through intellectual property protection
