Reports on Natura 2000 target bird and bat species for the Senožeška brda and Zajčica wind farms

Project name: Reports on Natura 2000 target bird and bat species for the Senožeška brda and Zajčica wind farms

Client: Vepa Ltd.

Period: 07/2024 – 12/2024
Location: Slovenia

Based on the pre-construction bird and bat monitoring for Senožečka brda and Zajčica wind farms, conducted from September 2021 to December 2022, reports on the target bird and bat species of Natura 2000 Ecological Network were prepared. Report preparation included the following activities:

  • processing and analysis of the results of the recorded Natura 2000 target bird and bat species
  • analysis of habitats suitable for the target bird and bat species
  • calculation of the Collision Risk Model (CRM) for the target bird species
  • analysis of possible impacts of the project on the target bird and bat species and possible mitigation measures
  • communication and consultations with the client
  • writing reports for Senožečka Brda Wind Farm and Zajčica Wind Farm.

The results of the surveys regarding the target bird and bat species of the nearby Natura 2000 areas (SI5000021 Vipavski rob, SI5000023 Kras, SI3000255 Trnovski gozd – Nanos, SI3000276 Kras, SI3000126 Nanoščica and SI3000225 Dolina Branice) were analyzed. The suitability of habitats for target bird and bat species was analysed in parts of the project planned within the Natura 2000 areas, within a GIS environment. The overflights of target bird species sensitive to collision with wind turbines were analyzed in a GIS environment and a Collision Risk Model analysis was conducted (Band et al. 2007; Band 2012 and SNH 2018). The main possible impacts according to the conservation goals (conservation attributes) of the target bird and bat species was assessed, and possible mitigation measures for the recognised impacts were listed. The monitoring methodology overview, results and analyses are presented in reports on the target Natura 2000 for WF Senožečka brda and WF Zajčica.
