The NIP Project is comprised of activities divided into three components.

  1. Contractual obligations refer to the project component which included protected area and ecological network site infrastructure investments. The purpose of these investments is to help promote and strengthen integration of Natura 2000 objectives.
  2. Performed services included supporting consultant services for Environmental Assessment (EA), i.e. preparation of site specific environmental management plans (EMPs) for twenty protected area and ecological network investments – in national parks (4), nature parks (8) as well as in other categories of protected areas and ecological network sites (8).
  3. Protected area and ecological network site investments covered the following types of works and facilities – two classrooms in nature, eleven info centre buildings and six educational trails re/construction, and two cave reconstructions.

EMP preparation included: (1) detailed description of the project (project purpose and activities; overview of relevant legislation and physical planning documents, project documentation and issued permits); (2) analysis and description of the existing environmental conditions (basic protected area features – geomorphology, land cover, habitats, flora and fauna; ecological network Natura 2000 sites; near site water bodies, traffic, communal and energy infrastructure, waste management and potential noise and air pollutants) as well as socio-cultural environment (local population and cultural heritage); (3) determination of the potential impacts on environment, ecological network and socio-cultural environment (in pre-construction, construction, operation and maintenance phase); (4) development of mitigation and monitoring plan; (5) public consultations of the EMP draft.
