Sustainability Report 2023 for Energija Projekt d.d.

Project name: Preparation of Sustainability Report 2023 for Energija Projekt d.d.

Client: Energija Projekt d.d.
Period: 10/2023 – 8/2024
Location: Croatia

The project aimed to create the first sustainability report for Energija Projekt d.d. for the year 2023, in alignment with the requirements of the CSRD directive and ESRS standards. The report was prepared as part of the organization’s efforts to meet the upcoming obligation to prepare sustainability reports, which will become mandatory for Energija Projekt d.d. in 2026 for the financial year 2025. Particular emphasis was placed on compliance with ESRS 2 requirements, which address critical aspects such as the roles and responsibilities of the highest governance bodies, strategy and business model, significant sustainability matters, risks, and opportunities, as well as how these factors are managed.

Data collection was conducted using Excel spreadsheets designed to meet the minimum requirements of ESRS standards, complemented by additional tools for value chain mapping and detailed analysis of ESRS 2 requirements. The project involved thematic meetings held in both online and in-person formats to ensure a deep understanding of the CSRD directive and ESRS standards. These sessions provided an opportunity for detailed analysis and laid the groundwork for further alignment with regulatory requirements.

The materiality assessment was conducted in accordance with sustainability matters liste in ESRS 1 AR 16 and, in addition, included specific sustainability matters identified through the expertise of the consulting team. Nature was recognized as a “silent stakeholder,” playing a crucial role in a comprehensive assessment of environmental impacts, risks, and opportunities. The process incorporated relevant scientific sources, including research on planetary boundaries and reports from IPCC, Copernicus, the European Environment Agency, CDP, and other authoritative organizations. To assess environmental impacts, risks, and opportunities associated with ESRS E4, a GIS tool was utilized to ensure accurate, reliable, and transparent data consistent with rigorous scientific standards.

The identification of financial materiality focused on risks and opportunities reasonably expected to impact the future development, financial position, and results of Energija Projekt in the short, medium, and long term. The preparation of this report relied on documents from Noricno and Energija Projekt, providing a comprehensive overview of how sustainability-related impacts, risks, and opportunities are managed at the strategic, policy, and goal-setting levels. An initial value chain analysis was conducted in line with ESRS requirements, aiming to distinguish the impacts of the company’s operations from those within its value chain. This analysis focused on identifying key impacts, risks, and opportunities likely to arise based on the nature of the business activities, relationships, and other relevant factors.

The process of drafting the 2023 sustainability report included the development of a concept, a draft, and the final version. The report’s structure was carefully designed to comply with ESRS 1 requirements, establishing a foundation for future reporting in accordance with the CSRD directive and ESRS standards. The report not only fulfills regulatory obligations but also reflects Energija Projekt’s commitment to sustainable development.
