May 21, 2024 – Organised by the International Academy of Sustainable Development and the Chamber of Commerce of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first ESG training in Bosnia and Herzegovina took place on 16 and 17 May in Sarajevo, marking the launch of the International Academy of Sustainable Development.
Our Andreja Pavlović, Head of the Department of Sustainability and Climate Resilience, guided the training participants through the maze of regulatory requirements of CSRD and ESRS and emphasised the importance of the sustainability context for understanding the new regulatory requirements related to sustainability management and reporting as well as sustainable finance.
Participants had the opportunity to practically apply three important ESRS concepts: the value chain, due diligence and double materiality. In a presentation on the EU Taxonomy, she explained the European Commission’s rationale for its introduction. In a practical exercise, the participants then calculated the proportion of their revenue, capital expenditure and operating expenses accounted for by the activities eligible for the taxonomy and aligned with the taxonomy.
In the lecture on the ESRS E1 requirements on climate change, Martina Kolovrat explained the key disclosure requirements for the Climate Transition Plan and possible challenges in its development. She also explained how to report on the resilience of a company’s strategy and business model to climate change.
Krunoslav Boban from TUV NORD Adriatic followed with a lecture on ISO 14064-1 as the first important step in preparing the Transition Plan.
Together with Lovro Turkalj, she led practical exercises on identifying physical and transition risks of climate change and their impacts on companies and the value chain, as well as identifying the impacts of companies and the value chain on biodiversity.
Lovro Turkalj, our biodiversity expert, guided the training participants through global and regional biodiversity issues within the requirements of ESRS E4: Biodiversity and Ecosystems.
We would like to thank Dr Tomislav Lukić, President of the Academy, Dejan Knežević, Secretary of the Academy, and Assistant Professor Dr Ana Buljubašić, Head of the Academy’s Waste Management Class, for inviting us to design and conduct this interactive ESG training. A big thank you also to all participants for their interest, active participation and feedback.
