Visit of Erasmus students

October 22, 2024 – Today, we were visited by students from IX Gymnasium in Zagreb and a gymnasium from Hungary, as part of their participation in the Erasmus program. The focus of their visit was to learn about working on environmental projects and the role of women in STEM.

Our ecologists, Marita Cvitanović and Marta Rogošić, introduced the students to Oikon’s work, the projects we’re involved in, and the role of women in STEM within our departments and laboratories. They explained the process of conducting environmental impact assessments, discussed the potential environmental and ecological impacts of infrastructural projects, and highlighted key considerations during the planning process. They also demonstrated the protective measures that can be applied to different projects.

Afterwards, the students worked in groups on specific examples of infrastructural projects to apply the knowledge they had gained. The goal was for them to think critically about the factors that influence the success or failure of large-scale projects, particularly from an ecological perspective.

The students and their teachers showed great interest, actively participating in discussions and asking many questions. We were delighted to host them and are pleased they left with positive impressions. It was also a great opportunity for all of us to practice English. 🙂 We wish them great success in their education and hope that some may become ecologists someday.
