CLC+ suite of products is a system with several components: a geospatial data component CLC+ Backbone (BB), producing and updating geospatial land cover datasets (a database/ application component CLC+ Core and a CLC+ Instance where specific outputs and requests will be performed. CLC+ BB produces a detailed wall-to-wall geometric vector reference layer with basic thematic content (18 classes) and an 11-class 10m spatial resolution raster product. The products are fully compliant with the EAGLE data model and nomenclature and can be used as main input data for the CLC+ Core database and as the main basis for extraction of the CLC Instances. CLC+ BB products complement current CLMS products as only wall-to-wall  Land Cover product.

Within the framework of this Contract, Oikon participated in execution of project tasks 2, 5 and 6, which include collection of training samples, data collection and previous in-situ data processing and thematic validation for regional selection of EEA39 countries (Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania) needed for generation of two thematic products (LC Raster Product and Level 2 Landscape Object Vector product). 

Task 2 “Thematic Classification” – included interpretation of Sentinel 2 and very high resolution (VHR) imagery and the analysis of NDVI values of previously defined samples to verify the accuracy of the CLC+ 11 classes.

Task 5 “In situ and Ancillary Data” – included contacting and informing state administration bodies to collect all necessary data, creating accuracy matrices, and pre-processing the obtained data.

Task 6 “Internal Validation” – included the validation of vector and raster samples selected by random sampling (blind and plausibility approach).In addition to selected regional member states, Oikon also participated in the validation of collected training samples for Turkey.

The CLC+ Backbone products will serve many current and future needs in European land cover/land use monitoring and policy reporting, as well as paving the way for all follow-up CLC+ components.
