31 October 2018 − In the area of Vrana Lake Nature Park and Nature Park Telašćica, both located in Zadar County, the predominant forest vegetation are forests that have been degraded down to maquis and garigue (degraded form of maquis made up of only the most resistant low shrubs), as well as shrubs and its degraded forms.
While working on the FORBIOENERGY project (Forest Bioenergy in the Protected Mediterranean Areas), we noticed that the quantitative and spatial distribution of wood stock / biomass in stands on these unreachable sites are missing. Therefore, Oikon’s lab LADIGIS (Laboratory of Remote Sensing and GIS), suggested determination of wood mass and the spatial distribution by technology that has so far not been used for this purpose in Croatia.
Within the aforementioned project, the area of these nature parks will be imaged by UAV with installed multispectral cameras. This data and the field research will provide LADIGIS with the basis for making biomass estimation models for overgrown areas of these protected areas (approximately 2700 ha of vegetation areas in total).
